They are associated with an impaired capacity of the urinary bladder to store urine. They are associated with impairment of the normal flow of urine (voiding dysfunction). The most important causes are as follows (2): <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Benign prostatic hyperplasia (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.bensnaturalhealth.com\/bph\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Benign prostatic hyperplasia<\/strong><\/a><strong> (BPH):<\/strong> Prostate enlargement is associated with bladder outlet obstruction. However, diabetes might also be a leading cause. In this condition, the bladder pushes urine out at the wrong time leading to storage symptoms.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Infections of the lower urinary tract:<\/strong> In these cases, inflammation and irritation of the urinary tract lead to storage LUTS.  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Urinary tract infections in men (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.bensnaturalhealth.com\/urinary-tract-infection\/\" target=\"_blank\">Urinary tract infections in men<\/a> need further investigation. However, there\u2019s an interconnection between the bladder and the brain to control this function.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Several nerves coming from the bladder send a signal to let us know when it is becoming full. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>These signals are monitored and controlled by various circuits in the spinal cord and the brain.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As mentioned above, a dysfunction in the urinary bladder is another cause of symptoms in men. <br><br>There are many theories for why the urinary bladder stops working as it should. The most important are as follows: <br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Problems in the urothelium:<\/strong> The epithelial wall of the bladder has <a href=\"http:\/\/snip.ly\/vby0y5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"urothelial cells (opens in a new tab)\">urothelial cells<\/a> that react to chemicals in the urine. They also have pressure receptors that activate when the urinary bladder is full. When there\u2019s a problem with these receptors, the function of the bladder is compromised. In these cases, abnormal activation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/snip.ly\/xezlek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"detrusor muscle (opens in a new tab)\">detrusor muscle<\/a> leads to detrusor overactivity (6). <\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:spacer {\"height\":\"20px\"} -->\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<!-- \/wp:spacer -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-are-lower-urinary-tract-symptoms-diagnosed\">How are lower urinary tract symptoms diagnosed? <\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Not every case of LUTS is associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia. However, HPB should be considered. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Every cause of lower urinary tract symptoms in men is associated with a given combination of signs and symptoms.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>After gathering data about the patient and their symptoms, a physical examination should be performed. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The doctor will examine the bladder and the existence of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"acute urinary retention (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.bensnaturalhealth.com\/urinary-retention\/\" target=\"_blank\">acute urinary retention<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/snip.ly\/oe4t4d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"pelvic pain (opens in a new tab)\">pelvic pain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>They will also look for phimosis or any leading sign of stenosis of the urinary tract. It consists of  7 different questions, each one with a severity score. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Mild symptoms are diagnosed with a score of 0 to 7.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Moderate symptoms correspond to a score of 8 to 19.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Severe symptoms are given a score of 20 to 35. <\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>After examining the patient, doctors will have enough data to guide their diagnosis. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>A <a aria-label=\"dipstick test (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/snip.ly\/ujxr9a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dipstick test<\/a> is essential to look for blood or glucose in the urine \u2014 leucocytes, or <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bensnaturalhealth.com\/nitrites-in-urine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nitrites in urine<\/a> that would point at an infection of the urinary tract.
